Hi guys! My name is Ashley and welcome to our blog Our Living Stones. I live in the Southeastern part of the United States with my husband, son, and three cats 🙂 This blog is very near and dear to my heart because it is something I have wanted to do for awhile now and I am so excited to get started! I want this blog to not only be about our house and how we are making it the best we can but about real people with a real budget and real life circumstances.
I wanted to start off by explaining the name of our blog. The name comes from 1 Peter 2: 4-5, which reads: “As you come to Him, the living stone, rejected by men, but chosen and precious in God’s sight, you also like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” This verse reminds me that as we are making this physical house a home, we ourselves are also a spiritual house being built by God and that Jesus is our cornerstone for which everything is built upon.
I have to stop and thank Jesus above all for everything.
So here is a little background about me:
When I was really little, my grandfather decided to invest in real estate. He had 6 grandchildren and wanted to give each grandchild a house that they could someday live in. So when I was around 8 or so years old, I picked this house that we live in today. You are probably thinking, how awesome is that! And it is awesome. BUT there are definitely some downsides to this scenario that you probably hadn’t thought of yet. 1) When I was 8 or so years old, I did not properly know what kind of house I would want when I grew up. 2) My grandfather didn’t exactly go out and buy mansions for all of his grandchildren, but bought simple ranch style (southern) homes that we could live in. This house is not exactly what I would call my “dream home” and will probably not be my forever home 3) This house was built in the 1960’s and has good bones but definitely needs updating and renovating.
With that being said… there are definitely some good things. We have been blessed to live mortgage/rent free for most of the time we have lived here. That is a MAJOR plus!!! We are also the owners of the house so we are free to do what we want to the house. BUT the house does come with some limitations and we also have some limitations of our own (aka. we definitely don’t have unlimited funds) so we are making do with what we have and trying our best to make this house the best we can within our means.
I hope that you will follow along as I share things that we have done so far and things that we will do in the future. I hope that you will understand that we are imperfect people with real lives that are just trying to inspire others and to share our gifts.
